The Paper Tower Exercise  - Fall 2007

Materials:

one 8 1/2" x 11" piece of paper, 12" of tape,
scissors, 2
class periods and  teamwork

     the beginning

everyone could tell the base was  important

      details

there were never two bases exactly the same

      leaning tower

and each base design idea had to be tested, approved
 or discarded
      square blocks

     circle base

the engineering on paper was easier than
the
construction  (one of those true facts)

        bricks

      all fall down

needless to say, some designs needed an airless room

          high

everyone worked hard on this
assignment

            legs on floor
           testing
coming up with ingenious ways to stabilize the towers

          winning heights
an initial measurement of over 122cms
 appeared to be a winner...
   but this
 measured in at 124 cms

          high

The winner in St. Clair's classes measured
in at 135cms!  Go cookie winners!

  Great Job!
